Mityana Cycle Challenge – 100 miles for 1000’s pounds

In October 2019 the Mityana Project Trust (MPT) raised funds and built a new Health Clinic in Butoloogo, a remote location, west of Mityana. On opening, MPT ensured the clinic had some essential start-up equipment and funds for the initial purchase of drugs. Now the sale of drugs goes on to provide income for maintaining the supply of drugs and purchase of some sundries.

The local community is heavily involved with the upkeep of the clinic and the District Health Office, who was closely involved with the build, is set to take over the running of the clinic in 2023. In the meantime, MPT continues to fund the employment of the Nurse and Night Watchman and now hopes to raise £1000 to purchase the equipment required to provide better maternity facilities.

This equipment ranging from Antiseptic (£3) and Fetoscopes (£6) up to the more expensive items such as a new Delivery bed (£189) or a Medical trolley (£89) can literally be the difference between a child and its mother’s life or death.

As our chosen charity for 2021, ElysianIT has taken up the challenge to raise those funds in our Mityana Virtual Cycle Challenge. On the 23rd Sept, our team will take it in turns on 2 fixed bikes to cycle the equivalent 100 miles (estimate… Uganda uses km and distances are always a bit subjective in their terrain!) which separates the clinic from the Mityana Project Trust base.
