National Oceanography Centre
Separation / Divestiture

Relaunched with its new stand-alone IT estate this national organisation sets sail for new horizons.
The NOC’s mission is to make sense of changing seas, upon
which future human prosperity and wellbeing depends. Through
undertaking, and enabling, world-class science, research and
technological developments, NOC aims to become regarded as
the world’s most innovative oceanographic institution by 2025.
The Challenge
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) were separating from
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and needed to move into
their own IT estate. Following a failed separation attempt, with a
different partner, our challenge was to achieve full organisational
separation through the design, build and migration of NOC to
their own cloud estate. Allowing them to achieve their Cyber
Essentials Plus accreditation and future funding access.
How did we help?
After successfully winning the NOC tender process, we were invited to initiate the project. Our work with NOC has encompassed:
Auditing of existing combined tenancy, to ascertain scope and future requirements.
Full re-design and implementation of a new scalable cloud IT estate with separate tenancies.
Transitional migration of infrastructure, 1000+ mailboxes and 17TB of file data across all work streams, with uninterrupted business continuity.
Full documented and supported handover to in-house IT team, including on-going 3rd line support.
Achievements
Separation Success
